SMS messaging policy
Last updated August 12, 2026. This is our own document, written by the operator of BroomDesk. It is not legal advice from a law firm, and it is not a substitute for advice about your own business.
The short version
- BroomDesk sends appointment and service texts on behalf of independent cleaning businesses. Every business has its own toll-free number, and every message says who it is from.
- You get service texts because you booked a clean and the booking form told you so. You get offers only if you ticked a box that started off unticked.
- Reply STOP to any message and everything stops, including appointment reminders. You get one confirmation and nothing after it.
- Reply HELP for help. Reply START to turn service texts back on.
- Message frequency depends on your bookings. Message and data rates may apply. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
- We never sell phone numbers, and we never share opt-in records with anyone for their own marketing.
The summary is here to be read. The full text below is what applies.
Who is texting you
BroomDesk is software operated by Amortoae Petru PFA (CUI 52361814), Romania, at broomdesk.com. Cleaning companies use it to run their scheduling and client communication.
The messaging programme is appointment scheduling and service notifications sent by BroomDesk on behalf of its cleaning-business customers. The platform holds the toll-free numbers and each cleaning business is assigned its own, so the thread you are in belongs to one business and to no other. The first message you receive from a business, and every marketing message, identifies the sender in the form "Business name via BroomDesk".
The cleaning business decides what to send you. BroomDesk delivers it and enforces the opt-out rules described below.
What gets sent
Service messages, about a job you booked
- Booking confirmation, sent the moment a booking is created.
- A reminder the day before the visit.
- A reminder a couple of hours before the visit.
- An on-the-way text when the cleaner starts driving to your address.
- A follow-up shortly after the clean is finished.
- A lockout notice if the crew could not get in.
- Quotes, invoices and payment links you asked for.
- A reply if you call the business and nobody picks up: "Sorry we missed your call. Reply to this text and we will get back to you as soon as we can." Replies go to the business, and some businesses use an automated assistant to answer the first message before a person takes over.
Marketing messages
- Review requests, seasonal offers and occasional promotions from the cleaning business you booked with.
- These are sent only to people who gave express written opt-in. They are never a condition of being cleaned.
How consent is collected
Service texts
When you book through a BroomDesk booking form, the contact step shows this sentence before you can submit: "By booking you agree to receive appointment texts about this job." Submitting the booking is the consent, and the moment and the wording are recorded against your number. The same disclosure appears on the quote calculator and the lead form, phrased for those requests.
Marketing texts
On the same booking step there is a separate checkbox, unticked by default, reading "Send me occasional offers by text". Nothing pre-ticks it, nothing ticks it for you, and leaving it alone has no effect on your booking. Ticking it is the express written consent for marketing.
You can also change your mind later. Clients who use the portal have a preferences screen with the marketing setting on it, and turning it off there stops marketing texts while leaving appointment texts running.
Texting START does not opt you into marketing. It restores service texts only. Marketing consent comes from the checkbox or the portal preference and nowhere else.
Records
Every consent and every opt-out is written to an append-only record holding the phone number, what was agreed, when it happened, and the evidence. Those records are kept for at least 5 years and survive the deletion of other data. That is what protects both you and the business if there is ever a dispute about whether you agreed.
Opting out
Reply STOP to any message and all texts from that business stop, including appointment reminders and other service messages. There is no separate marketing-only opt-out over SMS, on purpose: if you say stop, you mean stop.
The exact keywords the platform honours are:
| Reply | What happens |
|---|---|
| STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT | All texts to your number from that business are blocked, service messages included. You receive one confirmation and nothing after it. |
| START, UNSTOP | Service texts resume. Marketing stays off unless you turn it back on yourself. |
| HELP | Returns the help message shown below. |
Capitalisation and surrounding spaces do not matter. The word does have to be the whole message: a text reading "please stop" or "stop coming Tuesdays" is a conversation, so it goes into the business's inbox for a person to read rather than being treated as a silent unsubscribe. Our messaging provider also applies its own carrier-level opt-out handling on top of ours.
The exact replies
- After STOP: "You are opted out of texts from [business]. No more messages will be sent. Reply START to opt back in."
- After START: "You are opted back in to service texts from [business]. Reply STOP any time."
- After HELP: "[business] appointment and service texts via BroomDesk. Reply STOP to opt out. Questions: contact the business directly."
Opt-outs take effect immediately and in under a minute. The block is recorded against the phone number itself, not against one client record, so a number shared by a household is covered once. Consent is rechecked at the moment of sending, so a STOP that arrives while a message is queued still stops it.
You can also just ask the business. Their number is the number texting you, and their staff can end the messages from their side.
Frequency, timing and rates
- Frequency varies with your bookings. A single booked visit typically generates 2 to 5 messages: the confirmation, one or two reminders, an on-the-way notice and sometimes a follow-up. Recurring clients get that pattern per visit. Marketing messages, where you opted in, are occasional rather than weekly.
- Message and data rates may apply according to your mobile plan. Neither BroomDesk nor the cleaning business charges you for the texts.
- Quiet hours are enforced by the platform, in your local time, worked out from your service address. Service messages send between 08:00 and 21:00. Marketing sends between 08:00 and 21:00, with stricter windows where state law requires: 08:00 to 20:00 in Florida, Oklahoma and Washington, and 09:00 to 21:00 Monday to Saturday with 12:00 to 21:00 on Sunday in Texas. Anything that would land outside the window is held until the window opens.
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages, and delivery depends on your carrier and your signal.
Privacy of your number
Mobile numbers and consent records are not sold, rented or shared with third parties for their own marketing. Your number is shared only with our messaging provider, Twilio, for the purpose of delivering the message you are receiving. The full picture is in the privacy policy and the providers we use are listed on the subprocessors page.
Rules for businesses using BroomDesk
If you run a cleaning company on BroomDesk, you are the sender of record for your own messages. You need real consent for every contact, including any list you import, and you carry the liability for getting that wrong. Under the US Telephone Consumer Protection Act, statutory damages run from $500 to $1,500 per violating message. The obligations are set out in the acceptable use policy and in section 9 of the terms of service.
